Our mission is to build equity in education through representative leadership in and around school. Our vision is for every student in San Francisco to have one Black male teacher before sixth grade.

All students benefit from teacher diversity, but for a student of color, a teacher of color impacts their likelihood of dropping out of school and increases the odds of pursuing college — a life-changing consequence that positively ripples through communities and generations.

By making San Francisco the first metropolitan to offer every student at least one Black male teacher by fifth grade, Urban Ed Academy is proving that changing Black male teacher representation and elevating Black student outcomes is possible across the United States.
