Mission Statement

Miriam’s Kitchen first began in 1983 serving meals to the hungry and unhoused. Over the years, it has evolved its mission from serving those experiencing homelessness to ending chronic and veteran homelessness in Washington DC.

In the coming year, on top of its ongoing pandemic response efforts, Miriam’s Kitchen will expand its street outreach team, grow its housing program, and push forward a more equitable system where every person has a safe place to call home.
